The Pine Bluff Fire and Emergency Services, formed as a professional department in 1892, and provides fire suppression, haz-mat and rescue operations around the clock to a city that covers 45.6 square miles of primarily residential, commercial and industrial land. The response area includes the City of Pine Bluff and is located in the center of Jefferson County in Southeast Arkansas. Before 1892 the city was protected by the Merrill Vol. Hook and Ladder Fire Company.
The departments main station and offices are located at 200 East 8th Ave. We also operate 6 other staffed stations and 1 unstaffed station at the airport. We operate the department with a $5.8 Million Dollar Budget.
Last year we responded to over 4,400 emergency calls, of which 229 were working structure fires. Pine Bluff holds a Class 3 ISO Rating and protects the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff and Southeast Arkansas College.
There are 93 full-time firefighters and 2 administrative workers. The department operates 11 Front Line Apparatus and several reserve and non suppression vehicles. The City of Pine Bluff is a general law city located along Arkansas's beautiful Arkansas River, and is known as the Harbor City. Pine Bluff is located 30 Miles South of Little Rock and 150 Miles Southwest of Memphis. Our neighbors include White Hall, Northwest of the city and Altheimer 12 Miles Northeast across the river.
The City of Pine Bluff was incorporated on January 10, 1839 and has a current population of approximately 51,000 people. The City of Pine Bluff covers approximately 45.6 square miles and is surrounded by picturesque River Delta, Timberwoods and Farmland. The quality of life in Pine Bluff remains high, with an excellent school system and an affordable housing market. Those who enjoy a slower pace and a more simple lifestyle love Pine Bluff's unique city atmosphere.
Jefferson County is located in Southeast Arkansas, 15 miles South of Little Rock the capitol of Arkansas. The county population is approximately 80,000 people with the majority , 51,000, living in the county seat of Pine Bluff. In addition to Pine Bluff, there are another five incorporated cities including White Hall, Altheimer, Redfield, Wabbaseka, Sherrill.
There are 885 square miles of land in Jefferson County, of which 28.9 square miles are Water Ways. Temperatures range from the January average of 43 degrees to the July average of 98 degrees. The average rainfall is 29 inches a year.
